Atay Ibrahim has joined Moreland Blues FC for the upcoming Series Futsal Victoria (SFV) season after enjoying back-to-back-to-back SFV title wins with Carlton Heart in the last three seasons.
Ibrahim becomes the second player to make the switch from the Heart to the Blues, after Abdirazak Ahmed joined the newly-promoted side just over a week ago.
It’s not the last we’ve seen of both Ibrahim and Ahmed in Carlton’s colours though; the SFV Committee has confirmed that the pair will be eligible to represent the Heart at Series Futsal Australia (SFA) without being considered guest players, as per the competition’s newly-enforced rules that allow only three guest players who did not represent the club during the regular season.
Ibrahim and Ahmed formed quite the partnership at the Heart, but Moreland president Deren Saban insists that they were not brought in as a pair, instead citing their individual talents as the reasons for the transfer.
“Atay brings defensive attributes to our squad, an area where Spiro [Kargas] (Moreland manager) has identified we need to work on,” Saban said.
“Both players were identified separately, their previous chemistry was irrelevant.
“Spiro [Kargas] identified them both as perfect candidates for our squad and what we will need moving forward. They both have different attributes that they can bring the to squad. The addition of both players ensures the coach has all the tools needed to have a successful season.
“What is most important about the two signings is not only their ability but their commitment; they are both very committed players and will be available for trainings, This then allows the club to not be reliant on other players when we are low on numbers.
“The coach will have a squad of 10 outfield players who are all focused on the same goal and believe in the Moreland project.”
Ibrahim told bainmedia.net that he is looking forward to the new challenges that await him in the blue of Moreland.
“Joining Moreland will be a new challenge for me. Playing with people I’m not used to might be hard at first, but I’m still aiming to be in the running for another SFV title,” he said.
Ibrahim and Ahmed will make their debuts for Moreland in Round 1 of the new Series Futsal Victoria season.
