Yahya Khalif has signed his first senior contract, extending his stay with NPL2 side Northcote City FC.
The 18-year-old broke into the Northcote senior side late in the 2018 season, starting the campaign with the under-18s and progressing to the under-20s, before he caught the eye of seniors head coach Eric Vassiliadis in the second half of the season.
“Gradually the senior coach noticed me and I got to train,” Khalif said.
“I made my debut against Devonport in the Round of 32 in the FFA Cup and scored less than 10 minutes into my senior debut.”
He went on to notch up three more senior appearances in the league, starting Northcote’s last two games of the season.
Khalif is relishing the challenges ahead and the opportunities that may arise, “I feel excited to have signed my first senior contract Alhamdulilah (thanks be to God), hopefully this is only the beginning of good things to come and also gives me the opportunity to showcase my talent at a higher level,” he said.
“My ambitions for the future are to fully reach my potential through hard work and dedication. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it, it is all about having the correct mindset. Hopefully playing top level football in Europe in sha Allah (if God wills).”
Northcote were relegated from NPL Victoria to NPL Victoria 2 in the 2018 season.
